Hyderabad: Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy set a target of making Telangana a $1 trillion economy by 2034 and a $3 trillion economy by 2047. In his 80th Independence Day address, he also set a goal of raising Telangana’s contribution to India’s GDP to 10%.
Revanth Reddy said his government had completed 32 months in office. He said it had focused on welfare, development and social justice while laying foundations for major infrastructure and long-term growth.
The Chief Minister paid tributes to Mahatma Gandhi, Dr B.R. Ambedkar and Jawaharlal Nehru. He also remembered freedom fighters and those who died during the movement for Telangana statehood.
He said independence gained its true meaning when poor people overcame hunger and farmers escaped debt. Similarly, he stressed economic freedom for women, employment for youth and equal opportunities for weaker sections.
Telangana Independence Day address highlights economic growth
Revanth Reddy said Telangana’s per capita income stood at Rs 4,18,931 in 2025-26. According to him, that figure was about 91% higher than the national per capita income. Agriculture remained a major focus of his address. The Chief Minister said the government had waived crop loans of up to Rs 2 lakh, benefiting 25 lakh families.
He said Telangana had surpassed Punjab in paddy cultivation area and production. Moreover, the government had procured 81.12 lakh metric tonnes of paddy during the Yasangi season. Under Rythu Bharosa, the government had provided Rs 36,000 crore as investment support, he said. This included Rs 9,000 crore released within nine days.
The government had also paid a Rs 500-per-quintal bonus for fine paddy. Overall, Revanth Reddy said it had spent Rs 1.70 lakh crore on agriculture and farmer welfare during 32 months.
He reiterated that Telangana would not compromise on its rightful Krishna and Godavari water shares. In addition, he promised priority-based completion of pending projects from Tummidihatti to Palamuru.
Telangana Independence Day address focuses on women
The Chief Minister said the government aimed to help one crore women become financially prosperous. Women had recorded 335 crore zero-fare journeys under the Mahalakshmi free RTC travel programme, he said. Around 34 lakh women used free RTC travel every day, resulting in savings of nearly Rs 11,000 crore.
Under Gruha Jyothi, 53 lakh families had received up to 200 units of free electricity. Meanwhile, 43 lakh families had received LPG cylinders for Rs 500. The government had provided Rs 4,709 crore to 1.68 lakh beneficiaries under Kalyana Lakshmi and Shaadi Mubarak.
Women’s self-help groups had received Rs 60,487 crore in loans and Rs 1,900 crore in interest concessions. The government had also expanded their businesses into uniforms, sarees, petrol pumps and RTC bus ownership. Revanth Reddy said Telangana wanted women to emerge as entrepreneurs across sectors.
Smart ration cards and Indiramma houses
The government had sanctioned more than 15 lakh new ration cards, the Chief Minister said. Consequently, 3.38 crore people had food security coverage through the public distribution system.
He also announced the statewide launch of smart ration card distribution on Independence Day. The government aimed to improve transparency and accountability through new technology.
Moreover, ration card holders had received fine rice under the government’s distribution programme. On housing, Revanth Reddy said the first phase covered 4.50 lakh Indiramma houses. The government provided Rs 5 lakh for each house.
It planned another 2.50 lakh houses in the second phase. Additionally, the government proposed one lakh Indiramma housing units in towers under the CURE framework in Hyderabad. The Chief Minister said tribal communities, Chenchus and disadvantaged families would receive special priority.
New pensions and social justice measures
Revanth Reddy said the government currently provided pensions to 43 lakh elderly people, widows, persons with disabilities and weavers, among other beneficiaries.
It planned to sanction pensions to another 2.25 lakh people. Eligible single women, toddy tappers, filaria patients and people with certain blood disorders would also receive new pensions. The Telangana Independence Day address also highlighted the government’s caste survey and social justice measures.
Revanth Reddy said Telangana had become the first state to implement Scheduled Caste sub-classification. He also cited the government’s caste survey as a model for the Centre. The State had passed Bills proposing 42% reservation for BCs in politics, education and employment and sent them to the Centre.
Additionally, the government had revised minimum wages pending for 12 years, with 1.11 crore workers set to benefit. It had also proposed legal recognition, a welfare board and social security for gig workers. Another special law would seek to protect elderly parents from neglect.
Education, jobs and skills push
The Chief Minister said Telangana had improved from 28th to 18th position in the Centre’s Performance Grading Index for school education. The government had sanctioned 105 Young India Integrated Residential Schools. Of these, it had cleared 84 schools and started works.
It had also introduced pre-primary classes in government schools and Telangana Public Schools. Around 22 lakh students from pre-primary to Intermediate level received breakfast, milk and nutritious food.
The government increased hostel diet charges by 40% and cosmetic charges by 212%. It also supported 11 lakh students through fee reimbursement. Revanth Reddy announced a Rs 1,000 crore allocation for Osmania University.
The government had completed more than 72,000 government recruitments during its first two years, he said. It had also issued notifications for 456 posts through TGPSC and 7,437 posts through the Police Recruitment Board.
At Young India Skills University, 1,190 people had undergone training and 838 had secured jobs with major companies. Another 5,700 people secured employment through a job fair. The State had modernised 65 ITIs as Advanced Technology Centres. Moreover, it planned to convert 57 polytechnic colleges into similar centres.
Health, drug control and food safety
Revanth Reddy said the government had increased the Rajiv Aarogyasri coverage limit from Rs 5 lakh to Rs 10 lakh. It had undertaken construction of a new Osmania Hospital at Goshamahal for Rs 2,700 crore. The State was also preparing super-speciality hospitals in Warangal, Sanathnagar, Alwal and LB Nagar.
The government had established nine new medical colleges and was constructing eight more. NIMS had conducted 2,000 kidney transplant surgeries, he said. Of those patients, 1,900 had received support through Aarogyasri and the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund.
Since the government assumed office, the CMRF had provided Rs 2,526 crore to 5.18 lakh people. The Chief Minister also highlighted the creation of TG SAFE to combat drugs and food adulteration. The system brought food adulteration and drug enforcement under specialised legal, laboratory and enforcement wings.
Digital governance and infrastructure expansion
The government had implemented 100% e-Office operations across 36 departments. It had also conducted what Revanth Reddy described as India’s first fully digital Cabinet meeting. More than 581 government services had become available through WhatsApp.
The government would start Prajavani at all MPDO offices from August 17. It also planned an online Prajavani portal for filing grievances from anywhere in Telangana. On infrastructure, Revanth Reddy highlighted the proposed 360-km Regional Ring Road around Hyderabad. The State was also developing 6,092 km of HAM roads.
The government planned to expand Hyderabad Metro’s second phase through seven corridors covering 122.9 km. It was also reviving Mamnoor Airport in Warangal and developing the Adilabad airfield.
Musi rejuvenation and Hyderabad development
Revanth Reddy said the government had established HYDRAA to protect lakes, nalas and government land. The Musi rejuvenation programme covered 55 km and included 39 new sewage treatment plants. Moreover, the government planned to bring 2.5 TMC of clean Godavari water to the Musi.
He appealed for cooperation from people affected by the Musi project and said the government would support displaced families. The Chief Minister maintained that Musi rejuvenation was essential for Hyderabad’s future development.
Telangana Independence Day address details investment push
Revanth Reddy said Telangana had attracted Rs 1.29 lakh crore through Invest Telangana. He also cited investment agreements worth Rs 5.75 lakh crore at the Telangana Rising Global Summit 2025.
The government had introduced a Next-Gen Life Sciences Policy with a target of creating 3.50 lakh employment opportunities. IT exports reached Rs 3.97 lakh crore in 2025-26, he said. The sector accounted for 12.14 lakh direct IT jobs.
Hyderabad had more than 355 Global Capability Centres. According to the address, another 40 GCCs arrived during 2026. The Chief Minister also highlighted Telangana’s Tourism Policy 2025. While the State had set a five-year investment target of Rs 15,000 crore, he said it secured Rs 23,000 crore in the first year.
Rs 1,000 crore for Godavari Pushkaralu
The government had allocated Rs 1,000 crore for Godavari Pushkaralu, Revanth Reddy announced. He said Telangana planned to organise the event on the scale of the Kumbh Mela.
The Chief Minister also highlighted the Telangana Rising-2047 vision as the framework for the State’s long-term development. Under that vision, the government targeted a $1 trillion economy by 2034 and a $3 trillion economy by 2047.
It planned integrated development through CURE, PURE and RARE growth zones, covering Hyderabad and rural Telangana. The government also planned Bharat Future City as India’s first net-zero smart city. Revanth Reddy said the project would cover 30,000 acres and emerge as a destination for global investment.
He thanked farmers who had provided land for Future City and assured them of appropriate compensation. The Chief Minister said public participation remained essential to Telangana’s development. He also sought cooperation from government employees to increase revenue and help the State compete globally.
