Revanth Reddy meets Prahlad Joshi over paddy procurement

Hyderabad: Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy met Union Minister Prahlad Joshi to discuss paddy procurement and sought support for farmers in Telangana.

Reddy, along with Civil Supplies Minister Uttam Kumar Reddy, held a meeting with the Union Minister for Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution in Delhi. They raised issues related to procurement of paddy in the state.

The Chief Minister urged the Centre to procure 30 lakh metric tonnes of parboiled rice for the 2025–26 Yasangi season. He said this was essential to safeguard farmers’ interests.

The leaders informed the Union Minister that paddy output in the current season is likely to exceed estimates. They said the state may produce around 90 lakh metric tonnes.

Moreover, they sought full cooperation from the Centre through the Food Corporation of India to ensure smooth procurement. They also requested steps to enhance storage capacity.

The Chief Minister explained measures taken by the state government to speed up procurement and ensure minimum support price for farmers.

Prahlad Joshi responded that the Centre will examine the requests and take a decision accordingly.
