CM Revanth Reddy directs zonal commissioners to drive Hyderabad clean-up, enforce plastic ban

Hyderabad: Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Tuesday instructed newly appointed zonal commissioners to take full charge of enforcing urban reforms across Hyderabad. He emphasised urgent action on sanitation, pollution control, and eliminating plastic use.

Chairing a review meeting, the Chief Minister said the state had rolled out the Telangana Rising 2047 vision to develop the core urban region inside the Outer Ring Road. The government, he said, would implement this in a phased and strategic manner.

Zonal teams tasked with sanitation, lake protection, and EV rollout

As part of the CURE (Comprehensive Urban Reform and Efficiency) initiative, the city has been reorganised into 12 zones, 60 circles, and 300 wards. The Chief Minister asked zonal commissioners to stay in the field daily and address issues at the ground level.

He identified solid waste as the city’s most complex challenge. Each zonal commissioner must lead zone-wise clean-up operations. Moreover, plastic use will be completely banned across Hyderabad.

To tackle environmental damage, the government will transition from diesel to electric autos and buses in all CURE zones. It also ordered strict protection of lakes and nalas from encroachments.

Authorities must install CCTV cameras at key locations such as dump yards, drains, and lake boundaries. He further directed officials to conduct special sanitation drives three times a month and garbage clearance operations every 10 days. “There should be no visible garbage or potholes on city roads,” he warned.

Push for smart governance and real-time public service delivery

The Chief Minister urged the use of digital systems for issuing civic documents, including birth and death certificates and trade licences. Transparent, tech-driven services should become the norm.

He advised coordination with colony welfare and apartment associations to strengthen community-level communication. According to him, governance must now evolve from “good governance to smart governance.”

Revanth Reddy also announced that HYDRA, GHMC, and Water Works departments would begin nala desilting in January. He instructed officials to ensure proper street lighting in all neighbourhoods.

He assigned a Special Chief Secretary to coordinate all departments working under CURE. Zonal commissioners must also lead mosquito control and disease prevention, and respond quickly to toll-free helpline complaints.

Each zone must create a five-year action plan, he added. “Only collective effort will ensure a better future for Hyderabad,” the Chief Minister concluded.
