Hyderabad: GHMC Special Monsoon Drive removed 126.6 MT of legacy municipal solid waste across Hyderabad on Day 2.
The civic body also removed 46.6 MT of construction and demolition waste during the drive. Teams filled 105 potholes and cleaned 65 catch pits.
Meanwhile, workers cleared 2 culverts and removed 11.9 MT of floating material and silt. Teams also inspected 24 public toilets and installed 107 commercial bins.
The drive runs from August 11 to 21 across Hyderabad. GHMC teams are focusing on sanitation, monsoon preparedness, public health and waste management.
Officials also conducted information, education and communication activities and training at 18 schools. Around 700 participants took part in those programmes.
Health and veterinary teams carried out additional activities during the second day. These included pyrethrum spraying, stray dog vaccination and shelter-transfer measures.
GHMC Special Monsoon Drive expands civic work
GHMC teams lifted 47.5 MT of pruned tree branches from 34 parks. They also removed 10.45 MT of dry and green waste from the same parks.
In addition, the civic body distributed 1,041 Indiramma sarees during Day 2. Officials also conducted 11 awareness camps for self-help groups.
The day’s work covered multiple civic areas rather than sanitation alone. Teams addressed waste removal, drainage, roads, public facilities, greenery and health measures.
Pothole repairs and catch-pit cleaning formed part of the monsoon preparedness work. Culvert clearance and removal of floating material also targeted possible drainage problems.
GHMC said its teams were working on the ground across Hyderabad. The civic body linked the campaign to cleaner surroundings, public health and stronger monsoon preparedness.
The Special Monsoon Drive will continue through August 21. Further civic activities will take place across different parts of the city during the remaining campaign period.
