GHMC launches special sanitation drive across Hyderabad

Hyderabad: The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) will conduct a citywide Special Sanitation Drive from February 3 to February 28 to improve cleanliness across Hyderabad.

GHMC teams will cover 300 divisions every day during the drive. The focus will be on removing legacy waste and municipal solid waste.

Officials said teams will also clear construction and demolition waste, green waste, and waste from engineering and urban biodiversity works.

The sanitation drive will roll out in a phase-wise manner across major public areas in the city.

GHMC focuses on public spaces and garbage-prone areas

According to GHMC officials, cleaning will cover flyovers and foot overbridges. Teams will also clean roadsides, dividers, and central medians.

The drive will include footpaths, parks, lakes, and nalas. Crews will also clean areas around electric transformers and poles.

Special teams will clear identified legacy waste dumping sites. They will remove C&D waste using dedicated vehicles.

GHMC will also eliminate Garbage Vulnerable Points across the city. Officials said these locations cause repeated dumping problems.

Along with sanitation work, GHMC will conduct awareness programmes. These will involve citizens, schools, and resident welfare associations.

The drive will include e-waste collection and reuse through RRR Centres. GHMC will also impose spot fines for littering and open urination.
