Hyderabad: Chaderghat police arrested a man for using a fake number plate after detecting multiple violations linked to the offence.
Hyderabad Traffic Police, along with Chaderghat police, identified the accused as Mohd. Rafiuddin, a resident of Kurmaguda in Madannapet. Police arrested him on April 16.
Police registered a case under Sections 319(2), 318(4) of BNS and Section 158 read with 177 of the Motor Vehicles Act. They acted after receiving a complaint about the misuse of a vehicle registration number.
Fake number plate misuse led to wrongful traffic challans
According to police, the accused tampered with his two-wheeler’s original number TG11A1698 and altered it to TG11A1898. As a result, authorities issued traffic challans against another vehicle owner.
The complainant, Shaheen Begum, reported that she received multiple challans due to the misuse of her vehicle number.
Police used technical analysis and coordinated efforts to trace the accused. They then apprehended him and issued a notice under Section 35(3) BNSS while continuing the investigation.
Meanwhile, Hyderabad Traffic Police warned that using fake or tampered number plates is a serious offence. They said strict legal action will follow in such cases.
Police also advised citizens to report suspected misuse of vehicle numbers through official channels, including the e-challan portal, email and WhatsApp helpline.
