Arrive Alive campaign highlights golden hour importance in accidents

Hyderabad: The golden hour in road accidents took centre stage during an awareness programme held under the Arrive Alive campaign in Hyderabad.

Jubilee Hills Zone Traffic Police organised the programme at Apollo Hospital on April 17 as part of the 99-day action plan. Ambulance drivers, volunteers and community members attended the session.

Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic) D. Joel Davis participated as the chief guest. He explained that the first 60 minutes after an accident are critical to saving lives.

He said timely medical intervention during this period can prevent severe blood loss and reduce fatalities. Moreover, a quick response can minimise long-term disabilities.

Golden hour awareness includes CPR and emergency response training

Davis noted that in some cases, such as cardiac arrest, the response window is even shorter. He referred to this as the “golden 10 minutes,” where CPR can save lives.

He stressed that proper first aid training for drivers and youth can help save accident victims. In addition, he highlighted the ‘Rah-Veer’ scheme, which rewards those who assist victims during the golden hour.

Under the scheme, the government provides ₹25,000 and a certificate of appreciation to Good Samaritans.

Meanwhile, officials also created awareness of traffic rules and road safety. They urged citizens to follow regulations to ensure safety for themselves and others.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic-2) Kajal Singh advised drivers to remain alert at all times. She warned against rash driving and driving under the influence of alcohol.

She also explained the importance of defensive driving. The approach focuses on anticipating risks, maintaining speed control and adapting to road conditions.

Senior traffic officials and Apollo Hospital doctors attended the programme.
