Hyderabad: Senior BRS leader and former minister T. Harish Rao accused the state government of failing to deliver promised Sigachi fire compensation to victims’ families.
He said the government had announced ₹1 crore compensation per family after the accident. However, he alleged that payments made so far were far lower.
Speaking to reporters on Friday, Rao described the shortfall as a betrayal. He said the tragedy claimed 54 lives.
Harish Rao cited Assembly data to claim that ₹24.51 crore had been released so far. He said this averaged about ₹45.40 lakh per family.
Rao alleged that nearly ₹29.48 crore remained unpaid under the Sigachi fire compensation promise. He said many families were still waiting for full support.

Rao alleged that statutory dues were being shown as compensation. He said benefits like PF, ESI, and insurance were not ex-gratia support.
Harish Rao also accused the government and company management of collusion. He said rightful benefits were being misrepresented.
Further, he criticised delays in issuing death certificates. He also alleged that medical expenses were deducted from compensation.
Rao termed the incident a result of negligence and safety lapses. He urged the government to release ₹1 crore per family immediately.
Harish Rao said authorities could seize company assets if required. He demanded urgent action to support affected families.
