Telangana gears up for new tourism policy to boost jobs, attract global attention

Hyderabad: Telangana is preparing to launch a new tourism policy aimed at unlocking the state’s vast tourism potential, generating large-scale employment, and attracting national and international attention.

Tourism Minister Jupally Krishna Rao announced that the upcoming policy will focus on the integrated development of historical, cultural, and natural tourism destinations. The government is also devising an action plan to aggressively promote Telangana’s tourism wealth on global platforms.

Youth-focused and investment-friendly strategy

A key objective of the policy is to provide large-scale employment and self-employment opportunities to youth across the state. It aims to empower thousands of MSMEs in the hospitality, handicrafts, and transport sectors. The policy is being designed to offer incentives to attract private investment into tourism infrastructure and experiences.

By 2047, the state aims to raise tourism’s share in Telangana’s Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP) to 10%.

World-class experiences and global festivals

The new policy envisions introducing international-style projects such as shopping hubs, water games, adventure and caravan tourism. Plans include mega retail malls at ORR exit points, river festivals on Krishna and Godavari rivers, and promoting Hyderabad’s Numaish on the lines of Dubai’s Global Village.

State-wide food festivals are also in the pipeline to boost local culinary tourism and promote Telangana’s rich flavours.

Skill development and tourism entrepreneurship

The government also plans to provide skill training for youth in guiding, hotel management, transport services, and handicraft sales. By expanding tourism footfall through strong promotion campaigns, the state aims to create lakhs of direct and indirect jobs in the tourism and hospitality sectors.

Officials believe the new policy will not only strengthen Telangana’s economy but also elevate its global reputation as a diverse and dynamic tourist destination.
