A man was arrested for using fake number plate to evade traffic fines

Hyderabad: The Hyderabad city traffic police and Tappachabutra police arrested a 24-year-old man for allegedly using a fake number plate on his scooter to evade traffic fines and mislead enforcement authorities.

The accused, identified as Syed Omer Ahmed, a resident of Natraj Nagar in Jhirra, Hyderabad, was apprehended after investigators confirmed his involvement in tampering with the registration number of his two-wheeler.

Police said Ahmed altered the registration number of his Honda Activa from TS12EP8323 to TS12EB8323. He allegedly made the change to avoid traffic challans and escape detection during enforcement drives.

The manipulation resulted in traffic violations committed by the accused being linked to another legally registered vehicle owner. Consequently, challans were wrongly generated against the innocent vehicle owner.

Fake number plate detected through police coordination

The case came to light through coordinated efforts by the Hyderabad Traffic Police and Tappachabutra Police Station. Based on the findings, police registered a criminal case and took the accused into custody.

Officials stated that the use of a fake number plate is a serious offence punishable under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Motor Vehicles Act. They warned that such violations would be dealt with strictly under the law.

The Hyderabad Traffic Police said they use advanced surveillance systems, including CCTV cameras and Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) technology, to identify vehicles operating with fake or tampered registration plates and to track their movements.

Police also urged citizens to report suspected misuse of vehicle registration numbers through the Telangana e-Challan portal, the designated helpdesk email, or the traffic police WhatsApp helpline.
