Hyderabad: Hyderabad Traffic Police booked a case after detecting a fake number plate used on two vehicles, exposing an attempt to evade enforcement.
Officials found that two Honda Activa vehicles carried the same registration number. As a result, police traced the misuse to a resident of Borabanda.
Police said the accused, D Narayana Reddy, affixed a false registration number (TS09GD2712) to another vehicle. However, the original number belonged to a vehicle registered in the name of Deepa Rani.
Authorities said the accused used the fake number plate to mislead enforcement agencies and avoid penalties. Therefore, the police registered a case at Borabanda Police Station.
Fake number plate misuse leads to police action
Police registered FIR No. 181/2026 under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Motor Vehicles Act. In addition, they served notice to the accused under BNSS provisions.
Officials said the investigation remained in progress. Meanwhile, they warned that tampering with vehicle registration plates was a punishable offence.
Hyderabad Traffic Police urged citizens to report such violations. They said people could share information through the e-Challan portal, email or WhatsApp.
