Two held for fake vehicle number plate misuse in Hyderabad

Hyderabad: Hyderabad Traffic Police detected a fake vehicle number plate case and booked two persons for tampering with a two-wheeler registration. They allegedly used it to evade traffic challans.

Based on credible information, the Kachiguda police registered a case. Subsequently, they identified the accused as Shaik Abbu Baba, 41, and Shaik Rihaan, 19, both residents of Ramanthapur. Officials said the duo altered the original registration details.

During inspection, police found that Rihaan modified the number from TS08FB2768 (Hero Glamour) to TS08FE2768 (Honda Activa). To mislead enforcement authorities, he made the change. He also attempted to avoid penalties.

Fake vehicle number plate misuse led to wrongful challans

Officials said the accused committed multiple traffic violations using the altered plate. As a result, authorities wrongly issued challans to the actual owner of the Honda Activa. Police identified her as A. Lakshmi from Kukatpally.

Police registered FIR No.199/2026 under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Motor Vehicles Act. Meanwhile, they issued notices to both accused. Further investigation is ongoing.

Authorities said Hyderabad Traffic Police and Kachiguda law and order police detected the case through coordinated efforts. In addition, police warned that using a fake vehicle number plate is a serious offence. Accordingly, they said strict legal action will follow such violations.

They added that CCTV surveillance and ANPR cameras help track such vehicles. Therefore, officials urged citizens to report misuse through official portals, email, or helpline services.
