BC bandh attacks in Hyderabad prompt arrests and cases

Hyderabad: Shops, showrooms and petrol pumps in Nallakunta and Kachiguda were attacked during Saturday’s BC bandh, police said, and several protesters later faced criminal charges.

The bandh, organised by BC community groups demanding 42% reservation in local bodies, saw leaders stage a rally from Vidyanagar to Barkatpura. Protestors later blocked roads and clashed with shopkeepers in the Nallakunta and Kachiguda areas.

Police at multiple stations registered cases against demonstrators for causing damage and public disorder. Officers arrested eight people linked to the attacks and sent them to remand.

Officials said the attacks targeted retail outlets, showrooms and petrol pumps. They added that police recorded statements and began inquiries at the relevant local stations.

Residents and shop owners reported property damage and brief closures during and after the bandh. The incidents also disrupted traffic on several arterial roads.

BC JAC leaders had called the bandh to press their reservation demand. The organisers held a rally and staged protests across parts of the city. Authorities said they would continue investigations and pursue cases under applicable sections.

Police urged citizens to cooperate and to report further incidents. Shopkeepers asked for speedy restitution and stronger security during future protests.
