Hyderabad: The BC JAC bandh demanding 42 per cent BC reservations in local body elections continued successfully across Telangana on Saturday. The shutdown, called by the BC Joint Action Committee, received wide support from political parties and social organisations.

The bandh drew support from the Congress, BRS, BJP, CPI, CPM, TJS, and CPI(ML) New Democracy, along with various organisations such as Mala Mahanadu, MRPS, Adivasi, Minority, and student groups. Intellectuals and people’s unions also expressed solidarity with the movement.
Violence erupts at Nallakunta in Hyderabad
However, tension flared in Nallakunta, Hyderabad, when protesters vandalised commercial establishments that remained open despite the bandh call. The agitators hurled large cement blocks at a Bajaj showroom and Raghavendra Tiffin Centre, shattering glass panels and damaging property.
In another incident, protesters attacked an open petrol pump, breaking fuel machines and disrupting operations. The violence created panic among locals and shopkeepers in the area.
Police intervene to restore calm
Soon after the incidents, local police rushed to the spot. They dispersed the agitators and brought the situation under control. Additional personnel were deployed in sensitive areas to prevent further disturbances.
Officials said the bandh elsewhere in Telangana remained largely peaceful despite the Hyderabad incident.
