Hyderabad Traffic Police catch 4,197 motorists using mobile phones while driving

Hyderabad: Hyderabad Traffic Police caught 4,197 motorists using mobile phones while driving during a special enforcement drive conducted from November 1 to 7, 2026. Two-wheeler riders accounted for the overwhelming majority of violations during the week-long operation.

According to traffic police, officials detected 4,038 violations involving two-wheeler riders. Additionally, they caught 38 three-wheeler drivers and 121 four-wheeler drivers using mobile phones behind the wheel.

The enforcement drive targeted distracted driving, which police identified as a serious threat to road safety. Hyderabad Traffic Police said the special drive focused on motorists who continued to use mobile phones while operating vehicles.

Of the 4,197 violations, two-wheeler riders accounted for approximately 96.2% of cases. Meanwhile, four-wheeler drivers accounted for about 2.9%, while three-wheeler drivers represented nearly 0.9%.

The figures highlighted the high number of two-wheeler riders caught violating traffic safety rules during the enforcement period. Police warned that using mobile phones while driving could divert attention from road conditions and surrounding traffic.

Such distractions could also slow reaction time and increase the likelihood of accidents, according to the department. Even brief lapses in concentration could endanger motorists, passengers, pedestrians and other road users, police cautioned.

Hyderabad Traffic Police announce continued enforcement

Reiterating their zero-tolerance policy towards distracted driving, Hyderabad Traffic Police said they would continue special enforcement operations regularly. The department maintained that preventing mobile phone use behind the wheel remained an important part of its road safety measures.

Police also urged motorists to recognise the risks associated with distracted driving and remain attentive while operating vehicles. The enforcement drive formed part of the department’s efforts to discourage unsafe driving practices and improve compliance with traffic regulations.

Authorities appealed to the public to strictly follow traffic rules and refrain from using mobile phones while driving. Hyderabad Traffic Police reiterated that regular enforcement would continue to address distracted driving and reduce risks to road users.
