Sridhar Babu seeks U.S. investment in Telangana aerospace sector

Hyderabad: Telangana Industries and IT Minister Duddilla Sridhar Babu on Thursday invited American companies and investors to partner with the State in advanced manufacturing, defence technologies and space systems. He said the Telangana aerospace sector had become one of India’s most promising investment destinations.

He addressed a high-level delegation from the U.S. National War College at the Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Telangana Secretariat. He said the State recorded over 30% annual growth in the sector. He added that exports registered a 103% compound annual growth rate between 2024 and 2026.

The Minister said the government is pursuing a focused strategy to position Telangana as a global hub. This includes drones, counter-drone systems, aerospace components and defence electronics. At the same time, it is building capabilities in cyber security, artificial intelligence in defence, satellite systems and advanced communications.

“From rocket manufacturing to next-generation drones, and from fighter aircraft components to satellites, the ‘Made in Telangana’ footprint is increasingly visible across the world,” Sridhar Babu said.

Telangana aerospace sector growth and ecosystem

Sridhar Babu said major global companies are driving the rapid expansion of the Telangana aerospace sector. These include Lockheed Martin, Boeing, Safran, Airbus and Dassault Aviation.

He said Telangana hosts key public sector and defence institutions such as DRDO, BHEL, MIDHANI, BDL, RCI and HAL. In addition, more than 1,500 MSMEs are contributing to the sector. These firms work in precision engineering, drones and defence electronics.

Referring to the Financial Times FDI rankings, the Minister said Hyderabad ranks as the world’s most cost-effective aerospace city. He added that Telangana has received the Government of India’s “Best State for Aerospace” award for five consecutive years.

Telangana aerospace sector and U.S. partnership push

Sridhar Babu said the State is building a future-ready industrial ecosystem for the Telangana aerospace sector. Under the TG-iPASS policy, authorities grant industrial approvals within 15 to 30 days.

He said the Young India Skill University is helping create a skilled workforce. This supports the aerospace, defence and space industries. Therefore, he said Telangana is ready to emerge as both an investment destination and a long-term strategic partner for the United States.

He invited collaboration with U.S. companies, universities and research institutions. These partnerships will focus on artificial intelligence, cyber security, advanced manufacturing and space technology.

Minister-Counsellor at the U.S. Department of State Paul Narain said the United States is keen to work with progressive States such as Telangana. He added that both sides will take steps to deepen cooperation in the coming years.

The delegation from the U.S. National War College included representatives from the Navy, Army, Defence Security Cooperation Agency, Defence Intelligence Agency, Air National Guard and Defence Information Systems Agency.
