Telangana minimum wages raised to ₹16,000–₹20,000

Hyderabad: The Telangana government raised minimum monthly wages to ₹16,000–₹20,000, with the revised pay structure set to take effect from June 1, 2026.

Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy announced the Telangana minimum wages revision at the State Secretariat on Thursday. Labour and Mines Minister Dr. G. Vivek Venkataswamy also attended the press conference.

The government classified workers into four groups. These included unskilled, semi-skilled, skilled and highly skilled workers. It also divided Telangana into three zones for wage determination.

The revised Telangana minimum wages will benefit more than 1.11 crore workers across the state.

Unskilled workers will receive ₹16,000 per month against the earlier ₹12,750. Semi-skilled workers will get ₹17,000, up from ₹13,152. Skilled workers will receive ₹18,500 instead of ₹13,772. Highly skilled workers will get ₹20,000, compared with the earlier ₹14,607.

Telangana minimum wages mark major labour welfare decision

Revanth Reddy said the wage hike was the first major labour welfare decision since Telangana’s formation. He said the Congress government remained committed to protecting workers’ interests.

However, he criticised the previous BRS government and said it had neglected labourers. He also recalled veteran labour leader G. Venkataswamy’s contribution to workers’ causes.

The Chief Minister said Dr. Vivek Venkataswamy was carrying forward his father’s legacy through welfare measures. He commended the minister’s commitment to workers’ welfare.

Dr. Vivek Venkataswamy said the Telangana minimum wages revision showed the government’s resolve to ensure dignity for workers. He said the decision would improve living standards for working-class families.

Telangana minimum wages linked to wider skills push

Meanwhile, Revanth Reddy urged youth to look beyond traditional IT jobs and employment in the United States. He said countries such as Germany, Japan and Singapore offered major employment prospects.

Therefore, he asked youngsters to focus on skill-based education. He said the state government had established a Skills University to prepare youth for global opportunities.

The government said the wage hike formed part of its wider welfare and inclusive development agenda. It also projected the decision as a landmark step for workers across Telangana.
