Hyderabad: Telangana Labour Minister G. Vivek has announced that the state will soon bring in a dedicated Gig Workers Bill to protect the rights and welfare of gig economy workers. The cabinet is likely to approve the draft on November 12.
Speaking at the Secretariat on Thursday, Vivek said the move follows the vision of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi. After cabinet clearance, the bill will be introduced in the Assembly.
“We aim to provide security, rights, and social protection to gig workers through this law,” the Minister said.
He also stated that the government will assess the benefits of the bill and consider any required changes. The legislation seeks to regulate the growing gig sector by offering legal recognition and safeguards to those in app-based and informal services.
Vivek reaffirmed the government’s resolve to secure steady livelihoods and fair conditions for gig workers in the state.
