Hyderabad: Environment, Forests and Endowments Minister Konda Surekha led the 80th Warangal Independence Day celebrations at Khila Warangal and hoisted the national flag.
The district administration organised the celebrations at the Khush Mahal premises in Khila Warangal. District Collector Dr Satya Sharada, DCP Ankit Kumar and DFO Nikhita attended the programme.
Public representatives, district officials, police personnel, schoolchildren and members of the public also participated. At the beginning of the ceremony, Surekha received the police guard of honour. Subsequently, participants rendered patriotic songs as part of the celebrations.
The minister then paid floral tributes to Mahatma Gandhi and Bharat Ratna Dr B.R. Ambedkar. She later hoisted the national flag. Participants sang the national anthem and the Telangana State song following the flag hoisting.
Warangal Independence Day event highlights district progress
Surekha inspected the police parade during the official ceremony. The minister later addressed the gathering and presented the district’s progress report. She explained various development and welfare programmes being implemented across Warangal district.
Moreover, Surekha highlighted the progress achieved through these initiatives while delivering her Independence Day message to the public. Students from government schools later presented cultural programmes. The minister watched the performances held as part of the Warangal Independence Day celebrations.
The programme also honoured freedom fighters for their contribution to the country’s independence movement. Surekha and Collector Satya Sharada felicitated the freedom fighters with garlands and shawls.
During the interaction, freedom fighters sought double-bedroom houses. Surekha immediately assured them that their request would receive support. The announcement drew applause from those attending the programme.

Surekha also presented certificates of appreciation to officials and employees recognised for their performance. Later, the minister visited stalls set up by various government departments at the venue.
Collector Satya Sharada accompanied her during the inspection. Additional Collector for Revenue G. Sandhya Rani and Additional Collector for Local Bodies Y.V. Ganesh also joined the visit. The departmental stalls showcased activities and programmes undertaken by different wings of the district administration.
The Warangal Independence Day programme brought together public representatives, district officials, police personnel and freedom fighters. Students and members of the public also took part in the celebrations at Khila Warangal.
The ceremony included the guard of honour, flag hoisting, parade inspection and cultural performances. In addition, the administration felicitated freedom fighters and recognised officials and employees for their work.
