BJP slams Congress for denying respect to PV Narasimha Rao

Hyderabad: Telangana BJP President N. Ramchander Rao on Tuesday accused the Congress party of deliberately denying due respect to former Prime Minister P.V. Narasimha Rao, despite his decisive role in launching India’s economic reforms.

After paying floral tributes at P.V. Ghat on Necklace Road on Rao’s death anniversary, Ramchander Rao credited the former Prime Minister with laying the foundation for the country’s economic transformation. He noted that Atal Bihari Vajpayee, then Leader of the Opposition, had extended full support to the reforms in the national interest.

Moreover, Rao alleged that Congress reserved its respect only for the Gandhi family. He cited the refusal to hold Rao’s funeral in Delhi as a national insult that continued to wound public sentiment. “The Congress continues its double standards even today,” he said.

According to him, the Modi-led BJP government had addressed that injustice by awarding the Bharat Ratna to Rao. Furthermore, he urged the Congress to stop politicizing the Gandhi name and to recognize leaders who rose from the grassroots.

“Leadership is not the monopoly of one family,” he added, calling on Congress to honor those who served the country selflessly.

Meanwhile, MLAs Venkata Ramana Reddy and Palvai Harish Babu, along with other BJP leaders, also paid tribute at the memorial.
