Hyderabad: Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka Mallu distributed digital smart ration cards to beneficiaries at the Khammam Collectorate. Bhatti said the government aimed to provide food security to every poor family in Telangana. As part of this effort, it provided fine rice free of cost to eligible beneficiaries.
He said the government supplied six kilograms of fine rice per person every month to 3.42 crore people across Telangana. The Deputy Chief Minister also said the government was sanctioning new ration cards to every eligible poor family.
Digital smart ration cards support welfare access
Bhatti said ration cards played a wider role beyond providing access to subsidised food supplies. According to him, people could access benefits under several welfare schemes through their ration cards. Therefore, the government aimed to provide new cards to all eligible poor families.
The distribution of digital smart ration cards at the Khammam Collectorate formed part of this initiative. Meanwhile, Bhatti highlighted the government’s free fine rice programme as a major food security measure.
He said each eligible person received six kilograms of fine rice every month. Overall, 3.42 crore people across the State received the monthly supply.
Bhatti personally handed over the cards to beneficiaries during the programme at the district Collectorate. The Deputy Chief Minister reiterated that the government wanted every eligible poor household to receive a ration card.
Moreover, he said the cards enabled families to access multiple government welfare benefits. The digital smart ration cards initiative, along with free fine rice distribution, formed part of the government’s measures to strengthen food security for poor families.
