Hyderabad: The Telangana Cabinet on Monday approved a CBI probe into alleged irregularities in power purchases and the Bhadradri and Yadadri thermal power projects.
Ministers Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy, Ponnam Prabhakar, Adluri Laxman Kumar, and Vakiti Srihari announced the Cabinet decisions after the meeting at Dr B.R. Ambedkar Telangana Secretariat.
The state government constituted a Commission of Inquiry on March 14, 2024 under the Commissions of Inquiry Act.
The commission investigated alleged irregularities in power purchases and thermal power projects.
Initially, retired Justice L. Narasimha Reddy headed the commission.
However, he recused himself from the inquiry in July 2024 following Supreme Court directions.
Later, the government appointed Justice Madan B. Lokur to lead the commission.
According to ministers, the commission submitted a 114-page report to the government in October 2024.
Subsequently, the Cabinet sought the Advocate General’s opinion on the report during a meeting held on January 4, 2025.
CBI probe among major Cabinet decisions
After examining the Advocate General’s recommendations, the Cabinet decided to seek a CBI probe because interstate aspects and Central public sector entities were linked to the case.
The Cabinet also decided to rationalise land market values across Telangana.
Officials said the Registration Department would revise land prices scientifically in areas with major differences between official and market rates.
The revised land values will come into force during the last week of this month.
Meanwhile, the Cabinet approved relaxation for applicants under the HILT policy.
Applicants who submitted requests before the land value revision can pay 10 per cent initially.
They can clear the remaining amount within 90 days at current rates.
Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy also directed district in-charge ministers to assess crop losses caused by recent unseasonal rains.
He instructed officials to initiate immediate relief measures for affected farmers.
Cabinet clears solar projects and skill reforms
The Cabinet approved handing over operations of the Nalgonda-Ranga Reddy Milk Producers Cooperative Union Limited to the National Dairy Development Board.
The NDDB will handle processing, management, and marketing activities related to milk products.
In another decision, the government approved solar power generation plants at 33/11 KV substations in nine districts.
Initially, officials will establish 19 MW solar projects at 18 locations.
The estimated investment for the projects stands at Rs 66.50 crore.
The Cabinet also cleared a one-time settlement proposal for pending property tax dues of government offices under GHMC, Cyberabad, and Malkajgiri municipal corporations.
Officials estimated pending dues at Rs 5,864 crore.
The government expects nearly Rs 1,686 crore recovery after waiver of penalties and interest.
The Cabinet also approved construction of the Left Flood Flow Canal from Bugga Vagu near Kamepalli in Khammam district.
The project will supply water to minor irrigation tanks in the region.
Further, the Cabinet decided to bring all ITIs, Advanced Training Centres, polytechnics, and T-SAT under the Young India Skill University framework.
The government directed officials to prepare a detailed action plan for the proposal.
Additionally, the Cabinet approved allocation of 42 acres in Aziz Nagar of Moinabad mandal in Rangareddy district.
The land will be used for construction of a modern vegetable market.
