Hyderabad: MLC M. Kodandaram on Thursday paid tributes to Prof. Jayashankar on his birth anniversary and described him as the chief ideologue of the Telangana movement who dedicated his life to the cause of statehood.
Kodandaram attended celebrations organised by the Alwal Joint Action Committee (JAC). Moreover, he garlanded the statues of Telangana Talli and Prof. Jayashankar before offering floral tributes.
Meanwhile, JAC leaders welcomed Kodandaram with a procession featuring Bathukamma, Pothuraju performances and traditional Telangana cultural programmes.
Prof. Jayashankar inspired Telangana movement
Addressing the gathering, Kodandaram said Prof. Jayashankar played an invaluable role in spreading the ideology of the Telangana movement. Further, he recalled that the professor wrote extensively about the economic and political injustices faced by Telangana.
In addition, he said Prof. Jayashankar travelled hundreds of kilometres to address even small public meetings. According to Kodandaram, the Telangana ideologue firmly believed that a small movement would eventually grow into a mass movement.
Therefore, Kodandaram said Jayashankar’s birth anniversary should remind people of the spirit of the Telangana movement. Finally, he urged everyone to work towards building an egalitarian Telangana in line with the late professor’s ideals.
Former corporator Shanthi Srinivas Reddy, P. Surender Reddy, A. Dayakar, Putnala Krishna, Manda Shobhan Babu, Doli Sudheer, Ananthula Santosh, Ravi, Suresh, Satish, Sukanya Goud, Savitri Amma, and leaders and workers from the BRS, Congress, BJP and other parties attended the programme.
