Hyderabad: BRS Working President K.T. Rama Rao (KTR) on Thursday paid tributes to Telangana ideologue Prof. K. Jayashankar on the Jayashankar birth anniversary and criticised Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, saying Telangana should retain an independent political identity.
KTR garlanded Jayashankar’s statue at Telangana Bhavan. Moreover, he recalled the professor’s contribution to the Telangana movement and his vision for the State.

Addressing party leaders, KTR criticised Revanth Reddy over his frequent visits to New Delhi. According to KTR, the Chief Minister had travelled to the national capital around 75 times since assuming office. Further, he claimed Revanth visited Delhi once every 13 days and stayed there for two or three days during each visit.
Meanwhile, KTR alleged that the Chief Minister was seeking favours from the Central leadership. However, he said Prof. Jayashankar had always believed Telangana should never function as a subordinate to Delhi. Instead, he said the ideologue wanted the State to protect its self-respect and autonomy.
He said an independent political platform remained the strongest safeguard for Telangana’s interests. In addition, he said Prof. Jayashankar had consistently opposed merging the Telangana movement with the Congress.
Finally, KTR said K. Chandrashekar Rao (KCR) had fulfilled that vision by providing Telangana with an independent political platform. He added that the State needed leadership that would protect Telangana’s interests without compromise.
