Hyderabad: Hyderabad Task Force and Abids Police busted an interstate drug trafficking operation and arrested one man with 48 kg of dry ganja worth Rs.24.50 lakh. Police said the gang had planned to transport the contraband from Visakhapatnam to New Delhi through Hyderabad.
The Hyderabad ganja seizure took place near the City Convention Centre in Nampally after police received specific information. Police recovered 24 packets containing 48 kg of dry ganja from the accused.
They also seized one mobile phone from his possession. Commissioner’s Task Force DCP Vaibhav Gaikwad Raghunath disclosed the details of the operation. Police said four other suspects linked to the alleged trafficking network remained at large.
Hyderabad ganja seizure exposes interstate route
According to the DCP, the arrested accused hailed from Bihar and had earlier worked as a delivery boy for Blinkit. Police said financial problems in his family had prompted him to seek quick money.
He then allegedly joined Ankith Kumar alias Shiva, a man from his village, in transporting ganja. Investigators said a Delhi-based trader identified as Bandia had directed their activities.
Following those instructions, the two men allegedly travelled to Visakhapatnam to procure the contraband. There, they allegedly obtained ganja from local suppliers identified as Naushad alias Sunil and Rajesh.
Police said the accused packed 48 kg of dry ganja into 24 packets. They allegedly concealed the packets inside two air-carry bags and two large briefcases. The men then travelled by train from Visakhapatnam to Secunderabad with the consignment.
Suspects reached Nampally by auto
After reaching Secunderabad, the accused allegedly travelled to Nampally in an autorickshaw. Police identified Ankith Kumar as the alleged main organiser involved in transporting the consignment.
According to investigators, Ankith told the other accused that he would check the timings of trains heading to Delhi. He then left the location, while the arrested man remained with the bags near the City Convention Centre.
Meanwhile, police received information about the alleged drug movement. The Khairatabad Zone Task Force and Abids Police then launched a joint operation.
Officers reached the location and detained the accused while he waited with the consignment. The subsequent Hyderabad ganja seizure yielded 48 kg of dry ganja, which police valued at Rs.24.50 lakh.
Four suspects remain at large
Police identified four suspects who allegedly formed part of the trafficking operation. They named them as Bandia of Delhi, Naushad of Visakhapatnam, Rajesh of Visakhapatnam and Ankith Kumar of Bihar.
All four remained at large, according to police. Investigators intensified efforts to trace them and establish their roles in the alleged network. Police said Bandia had allegedly instructed the accused to procure and transport the ganja.
Naushad and Rajesh allegedly supplied the contraband in Visakhapatnam. Ankith Kumar allegedly travelled with the arrested accused before leaving him at Nampally. Abids Police registered a case under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act.
Investigators continued to examine the interstate supply chain behind the Hyderabad ganja seizure. They were also tracing the absconding suspects and examining the planned delivery of the consignment in New Delhi.
Police said the route involved moving the drugs from Visakhapatnam through Secunderabad and Hyderabad before onward transportation to Delhi. The investigation also focused on identifying other people who might have links with the alleged trafficking network.
DCP Vaibhav Gaikwad Raghunath appreciated the personnel who took part in the operation. He commended Task Force Inspector P. Raghavender and Detective Inspector K. Prasad Rao.
The DCP also appreciated SI G. Srikanth and other personnel involved in the operation. Police said further investigation would focus on arresting the four absconding suspects and tracing the wider network behind the consignment.
