Hyderabad police arrest two drug peddlers, seize MDMA and ganja worth ₹7.3 lakh

Hyderabad: The Hyderabad Narcotics Enforcement Wing (H-NEW), in a joint operation with Domalguda Police, arrested an interstate drug supplier and a local peddler. They seized MDMA and ganja worth ₹7.3 lakh.

Police identified the accused as Nikhil S (19), a student from Bengaluru, and Raghavendra Rao (27), a private employee from Vijayawada. The seizure included 12.57 grams of MDMA, 305 grams of ganja, a Nissan Magnite car, three mobile phones, ₹1,080 in cash, and empty sachets. A case under the NDPS Act was registered at Domalguda Police Station.

Repeat offender caught again

Investigators said Rao, already facing five NDPS cases in Andhra Pradesh, turned to MDMA to fund his drug habit and flashy lifestyle. He procured ganja from the Andhra–Odisha border and supplied it in Andhra Pradesh and Hyderabad. Recently, he began sourcing MDMA from Nikhil.

Student-turned-peddler

Nikhil, a BCA student specializing in AI and ML, bought MDMA from Nigerian dealers through the “dead drop” method and UPI payments. Police said he got into the trade after experimenting with synthetic drugs during his student life.

Police appeal

H-NEW warned that students and dropouts using drugs often slip into peddling to sustain the habit. Parents were urged to monitor their children closely. Citizens can report drug abuse by calling the H-NEW helpline 8712661601.

The arrests were made by Inspector G.S. Daniel and SI C. Venkata Ramulu of H-NEW, along with SHO D. Srinivasa Reddy and SI K. Vijya of Domalguda Police Station.
