Borabanda Police invoke PD Act against illegal belt shop operator

Hyderabad: Borabanda Police executed Preventive Detention (PD) Act orders against an alleged illegal belt shop operator on October 8, 2026. The action against Ch. Mariya, also known as Ch. Marry, followed her alleged involvement in multiple cases concerning the unauthorised sale of liquor.

According to the police press note, the action was taken on the orders of Hyderabad Police Commissioner VC Sajjanar, IPS. The 40-year-old woman, wife of Sree Ramulu, resides in Vinayak Rao Nagar, Borabanda, Hyderabad, and works in business.

Police stated that Ch. Mariya had allegedly operated an illegal belt shop within Borabanda Police Station limits for several years. Meanwhile, authorities said her continued involvement in unlawful liquor sales led to action under the Telangana Prevention of Dangerous Activities Act.

Borabanda Police PD Act warning targets illegal liquor sales

Borabanda Police warned people operating unauthorised belt shops to stop selling liquor immediately. The department said such businesses operate without valid licences and violate the Telangana Excise Act.

Police cautioned that officers would register cases under the Telangana Excise Act against people involved in illegal liquor sales. They also warned that authorities could invoke the PD Act against habitual offenders.

In addition, people who provide premises or shelter for illegal belt shops could also face charges, according to the press note. Police urged the public to report unauthorised liquor sales or belt shops within Borabanda Police Station limits.
