Hyderabad: Civil Supplies Commissioner Stephen Ravindra directed officials to speed up paddy procurement transportation during an inspection in Nalgonda district.
He conducted a surprise visit to the Pedakaparthi procurement centre in Chityal mandal on Tuesday. The review focused on faster unloading, vehicle movement, and transportation.
Ravindra instructed officials to increase unloading operations at rice mills. He also asked them to improve vehicle rotation and deploy more lorries and hamalis.
Paddy procurement transportation reviewed
During the visit, Ravindra assessed procurement and logistics with District Collector B. Chandrashekhar and officials. He reviewed stock, labour availability, and transport arrangements.
Officials said 25,000 quintals of paddy had reached the centre. Of this, 7,000 quintals were procured with tab entry completed.
They added that around 15,000 metric tonnes of paddy remained at the centre. As a major facility, 10 to 20 additional lorries were arranged.
Further, officials said advance information was given to millers to avoid labour shortages. About 30 hamalis were deployed at each centre, with 30 to 35 workers at mills.
Ravindra stressed that tab entry must reach 100 percent. He also reviewed dryers, cleaning processes, and the availability of gunny bags and tarpaulins.
He directed officials to arrange additional tarpaulins wherever required.
Measures to improve paddy procurement transportation
Later, Ravindra visited Siddhartha Rice Industries at Vattimarthy. He enquired about labour strength and was informed that 35 workers were engaged.
Ravindra directed the management to increase unloading and vehicle rotation. He also reviewed system-based uploading of paddy data and tab entry records.
The Commissioner asked officials to focus on centres with pending tab entries. He said paddy should be shifted to intermediate godowns if mills faced space constraints.
Additionally, he instructed Transport Department Deputy Commissioner Vani to arrange more vehicles. He said this would help improve paddy procurement transportation.
