Hyderabad: Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy directed officials to organise the Khelo India Youth Games 2026 on a prestigious scale. He asked departments to prepare for the national sporting event in December.
Revanth Reddy reviewed preparations and arrangements for the games at Bodhi Pavilion in MCR HRD. Minister Vakiti Srihari and senior officials attended the meeting. The Chief Minister directed officials to develop infrastructure for the national-level competitions. Athletes from different states across the country were expected to participate in the event.
Moreover, he asked officials to examine the present condition of stadiums in Hyderabad. He wanted them upgraded permanently to meet the requirements of major sporting competitions. The state government was ready to provide the funds required for the infrastructure works, Revanth Reddy said.
Khelo India Youth Games venues to get infrastructure upgrades
The Chief Minister asked officials to begin preparations immediately for the opening and closing ceremonies. He wanted chief guests, prominent sportspersons and film personalities to take part in the programmes.
Meanwhile, officials were told to clearly divide responsibilities for different areas of the Khelo India Youth Games. These included infrastructure, conduct of sporting events and facilities for guests.
Revanth Reddy also sought the involvement of Arjuna Award recipients from Telangana. In addition, he asked officials to include Telangana Sports Hub board members in the programme.
Representatives of the Olympics Association and national-level sports representatives were also to be involved. Therefore, officials were directed to prepare plans for their participation well in advance.
The Khelo India Youth Games were set to feature competitions across 20 sports. The Chief Minister asked officials to identify suitable competition venues separately for each sporting discipline.
Accordingly, the authorities were told to make sport-specific arrangements at the identified venues. Revanth Reddy said the overall conduct of the games should reflect the spirit of sport.
Government adviser K. Ramakrishna Rao attended the review meeting. Sports Authority of Telangana chairman Shiva Sena Reddy was also present. Special Chief Secretary Jayesh Ranjan and SATG Managing Director A. Sonibala Devi also participated in the meeting.
The government planned to use the Khelo India Youth Games to improve sporting infrastructure on a permanent basis. As part of the preparations, officials were tasked with upgrading venues and coordinating arrangements for athletes, guests and major ceremonies.
