Hyderabad: Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Friday directed officials to develop Indiramma housing colonies within residential areas across the Core Urban Region (CURE) zone, saying urban housing projects must keep beneficiaries close to their workplaces and livelihood opportunities.
Reviewing the implementation of the Indiramma Urban Housing Scheme, the Chief Minister asked officials to identify unused government land within the Outer Ring Road (ORR) limits. He also sought details of vacant land owned by various government departments that could be used for the project.
Subsequently, officials briefed the Chief Minister on housing sites identified across several Assembly constituencies. The meeting decided to utilise land belonging to the police, revenue and transport departments for the housing scheme. Meanwhile, the government will provide alternative land to those departments at other locations.
Indiramma housing to prioritise livelihoods
Revanth Reddy said constructing Indiramma housing colonies far from residential areas could affect employment and livelihood opportunities for poor families. He added that several houses built away from urban settlements had remained unoccupied for the same reason.
Therefore, he directed officials to build houses near workplaces within residential areas so beneficiaries could continue earning their livelihoods without disruption.
The State government has already announced plans to construct Indiramma houses across several Assembly constituencies in the CURE zone. In addition, each flat will have a built-up area of about 528 square feet and a carpet area of 400 square feet.
The estimated construction cost of each flat is around ₹11 lakh. However, the government will provide a subsidy of ₹5 lakh, while beneficiaries will contribute the remaining ₹6 lakh. Besides, the government will bear the entire land cost.
Meanwhile, officials are finalising plans to construct and hand over 7,680 flats across 17 Assembly constituencies in the first phase. The constituencies include Rajendranagar, Maheshwaram, Serilingampally, Ibrahimpatnam, Malkajgiri, Nampally, Khairatabad, Jubilee Hills, Karwan, Bahadurpura, Amberpet, Kukatpally, Medchal, Quthbullapur, Sanathnagar, Secunderabad Cantonment and Malakpet.
Additionally, the Chief Minister directed officials to expedite the identification of unused government land in these constituencies to speed up the project.
Ministers Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy and Ponnam Prabhakar, R&B Special Chief Secretary Vikas Raj, DGP C.V. Anand, Chief Minister’s Principal Secretaries N. Sridhar and V. Seshadri, Revenue Secretary Lokesh Kumar, HMDA Commissioner Sarfaraz Ahmad, Housing Special Secretary V.P. Gautham, Hyderabad District Collector Priyanka Ala and senior officials attended the review meeting.
