Regula Kunta lake encroachment allegations trigger survey report row

Hyderabad: Fresh Regula Kunta encroachment allegations have surfaced after conflicting survey reports on a government lake in Hafeezpet’s Deepti Sri Nagar triggered complaints against revenue officials. A citizens’ group alleged that changing survey records was helping encroachers continue construction on the lake land.

According to the complaint, earlier official surveys identified Survey No. 151 as government lake land. However, a later report allegedly stated that the ongoing construction fell under Survey No. 150 instead, raising questions over the change in findings.

Kasireddy Bhaskar Reddy, president of the NGO Janam Kosam, submitted a complaint to the Assistant Director of Survey at the Collector’s office. He alleged that some survey officials were protecting encroachers instead of safeguarding government property and sought action against those responsible.

The complainant also claimed that despite repeated representations and documentary evidence, officials had failed to stop the alleged encroachments. He argued that such actions undermined efforts to protect lakes even as the government invested heavily in their conservation.

Regula Kunta encroachment complaint cites conflicting surveys

Bhaskar Reddy said a 2020 report by the then Rajendranagar Revenue Divisional Officer identified Regula Kunta in Survey No. 151 as a government lake. He added that a recent survey ordered by the Serilingampally Tahsildar also found construction within Survey No. 151.

However, he alleged that a subsequent report from the Assistant Director of Survey claimed the construction was located in Survey No. 150. Consequently, he demanded the suspension of officials if an inquiry established irregularities and submitted supporting documents to the department.

The Assistant Director of Survey, Ram Reddy, reportedly responded positively to the complaint and assured the complainants that a detailed investigation would be conducted. The complainants also urged authorities to halt construction at Regula Kunta and take strict action if any encroachment or official misconduct was established.
