Hyderabad: Telangana Housing Minister Ponguleti Srinivasa Reddy on Wednesday urged the Centre to allocate 11,56,915 Telangana PMAY-G houses in a single tranche.
Ponguleti met Union Agriculture, Farmers’ Welfare and Rural Development Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan in New Delhi. He submitted a representation seeking the allocation under Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana-Gramin 2.0.
The minister also referred to an earlier letter from Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on the issue. Moreover, he asked Chouhan to expedite the allocation of houses to Telangana. Ponguleti holds the Revenue, Housing and Information and Public Relations portfolios in the Telangana government.
Telangana PMAY-G houses survey identified 11.56 lakh families
Ponguleti said the State had completed a transparent door-to-door housing survey through the Awaas Plus-2024 application. According to him, the exercise identified more than 11.56 lakh rural poor families as eligible for housing assistance.
He said officials had completed the super-check process and removed ineligible beneficiaries a year ago. However, the Centre had yet to announce the targets, he said.
Ponguleti argued that house construction for poor families had remained stalled in Telangana for the past 12 years. Consequently, he said the State faced substantial pent-up demand for housing. Therefore, the minister urged the Union government to sanction all 11,56,915 Telangana PMAY-G houses in one tranche.
Telangana PMAY-G houses to get additional State assistance
Ponguleti also highlighted the State government’s financial support for poor families constructing houses. He said Telangana had decided to provide Rs 5 lakh to every poor family for house construction. The assistance would come separately from Central support and the State’s regular share under PMAY-G.
Furthermore, Ponguleti said the Telangana government had already allocated the necessary funds in the State Budget. The minister also invited Shivraj Singh Chouhan to visit Telangana. He asked the Union minister to personally announce the PMAY-G 2.0 housing allocation during the proposed visit.
Ponguleti said such an announcement would provide significant support to rural poor families. He also said it would mark a historic occasion for the State. Chouhan responded positively to the invitation and agreed to visit Telangana, according to the information provided.
MPs Dr Mallu Ravi, Vem Narender Reddy and Chamala Kiran Kumar Reddy attended the meeting. Suresh Shetkar, Ramasahayam Raghuram Reddy and Anil Kumar Yadav were also present. Telangana Housing Corporation Managing Director V.P. Gautham and other officials also participated in the meeting.
