Hyderabad: The Telangana Housing Board has invited public suggestions to name the proposed LIG housing scheme under which one lakh flats will be constructed in CURE areas. The board announced a cash prize of Rs 1 lakh for the best name selected through an open competition on social media.
The initiative marks the first major housing programme for low-income groups proposed after the formation of Telangana. The State government, led by Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, has decided to build one lakh flats for economically weaker sections in CURE areas.
Housing Board Vice Chairman V.P. Gautham said the board wanted to involve citizens directly in the project by allowing them to suggest a suitable name. Accordingly, the Housing Board launched a public contest and will accept entries through social media until June 28.
The board stated that the winning entry would receive a cash reward of Rs 1 lakh. Further, the selected name will become the official identity of the flagship housing project.
The Housing Board enjoys a strong reputation for delivering housing projects without disputes and at affordable prices. In addition, projects developed by the board have consistently received strong public response and demand.
LIG housing scheme to cover all CURE constituencies
Meanwhile, the board has begun preparing proposals for the construction of LIG housing scheme flats across all Assembly constituencies falling under the CURE region. Officials have already identified the land required for the project.
According to V.P. Gautham, the decision to seek public participation reflects the government’s effort to make citizens stakeholders in the project. Therefore, the board decided that the scheme’s name should emerge directly from public suggestions.
Interested participants can submit their entries through the Housing Department’s official Instagram handle, tghd.official. The competition will remain open until June 28.
Further, the board plans to invite applications from eligible beneficiaries once the project framework is finalised. Thereafter, authorities will allot houses through a lottery system.
The Housing Board said it would announce the complete guidelines, eligibility criteria and allotment procedures for the project shortly.
