Hyderabad: Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy urged the Centre to allocate PMAY-G houses for 11.56 lakh eligible rural families in Telangana. He made the request during a meeting with Union Rural Development and Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan in New Delhi.
The Chief Minister said the State government had given top priority to providing permanent housing for poor families. During the meeting, he explained the Indiramma housing scheme.
Revanth Reddy said the previous government had failed to utilise the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Gramin (PMAY-G). As a result, many poor families could not build their own houses over the past decade. Demand for housing had now increased significantly.
He informed the Union Minister that the State had identified 11,56,915 eligible rural families through the Awaas+ survey. Therefore, he requested the Centre to sanction PMAY-G houses at the earliest.
PMAY-G houses and rural employment proposals
The Chief Minister also sought additional works under the Viksit Bharat Guarantee for Rozgar and Aajeevika Mission (Rural). He cited El Niño conditions and drought as the reasons. Accordingly, he proposed livelihood activities for SCs, STs, small and marginal farmers, and agricultural labourers.
He requested the Centre to include vegetable cultivation structures, fodder plots, mulberry plantations, silkworm rearing sheds, kitchen gardens and bamboo plantations under the programme.
Revanth Reddy also proposed water conservation trenches in hill areas. He sought moisture conservation works in plantations and orchards. He also requested restoration of lands damaged by floods and sand deposition.
Referring to MGNREGS, he said beneficiaries of Indiramma Houses earlier received up to 90 days of wage employment during house construction. Furthermore, he requested the Centre to extend the same provision under the new programme. He also sought approval for additional works proposed by Telangana based on local needs.
The Chief Minister said he had explained issues related to Indiramma Houses and employment works to the Union Minister. Finally, he said Shivraj Singh Chouhan responded positively to the requests and accepted an invitation to visit Telangana to review the situation on the ground.
