Varnam food safety inspection finds hygiene violations in Hafeezpet

Hyderabad: CMC Food Safety Officers found multiple hygiene and safety violations during a Varnam food safety inspection at Genpact Lane in Hafeezpet. Officials found fungus on cauliflower during the inspection. They also observed spoiled cabbage and potatoes that staff had not properly sorted.

The inspection examined food hygiene and safety practices at the establishment. Officials gave Varnam a FoSCoS score of 61 out of 100, or 61%. However, the inspection also recorded a positive practice. Food handlers at the establishment maintained good personal hygiene.

Varnam food safety inspection flags drainage issues

Officials found stagnant water and food waste in drains at the premises. Moreover, the establishment used iron knives and did not use pallets. Inspectors also found deficiencies in mandatory documentation. Medical, food testing, water testing and packaging records were not available during the inspection.

In addition, officials found that staff had not properly cleaned or organised the refrigerator. Inspectors also observed water leaking from the refrigeration unit. The Varnam food safety inspection further found problems with food labelling. Staff had not labelled semi-prepared and prepared food items.

Officials also noticed dust accumulation on the ceiling. Meanwhile, the exhaust systems had grease deposits. Inspectors identified fungus on cauliflower and found spoiled cabbage and potatoes that required sorting. These observations formed part of the violations recorded during the inspection.

Varnam food safety inspection leads to notice

Food Safety Officers said authorities would serve a notice over the violations identified at the Hafeezpet establishment. The notice would direct the establishment to rectify the deficiencies. Furthermore, officials would require improvements in its food safety and hygiene practices.

The Varnam food safety inspection resulted in a FoSCoS score of 61%. Authorities sought corrective action on drainage, equipment, documentation, refrigeration, food labelling and cleanliness.
