GHMC mosquito control drive targets breeding across Hyderabad

Hyderabad: GHMC Entomology teams carried out awareness programmes and anti-larval operations across Hyderabad as part of efforts to prevent mosquito breeding and mosquito-borne diseases.

The civic body urged residents to spend at least 10 minutes every week checking their homes and surroundings for stagnant water. Officials asked people to remove accumulated water from containers, flower pots, discarded tyres and other potential mosquito breeding sites.

GHMC also advised households to keep water storage containers properly covered with lids. This would prevent mosquitoes from accessing standing water for breeding.

GHMC mosquito control focuses on stagnant water

The civic body stressed that small preventive measures at the household level could reduce mosquito breeding. Residents were asked to regularly inspect places where water could collect. Moreover, they were advised to keep their surroundings clean.

GHMC recommended using mosquito repellents to reduce the risk of bites. It also advised people to wear protective clothing where necessary. Meanwhile, Entomology teams continued GHMC mosquito control operations in different parts of the city.

The teams conducted anti-larval measures alongside public awareness activities. The operations focused on preventing breeding and controlling the spread of mosquito-borne diseases.

GHMC mosquito control seeks public participation

GHMC called for active participation from residents in keeping neighbourhoods free from mosquito breeding sources. The civic body said household awareness and individual action could complement field operations conducted by its Entomology teams.

Residents were particularly advised to prevent stagnant water from remaining in unused containers, pots and tyres. They were also asked to regularly check other locations around their homes where rainwater or stored water could accumulate.

Through its GHMC mosquito control campaign, the civic body emphasised collective action to reduce breeding conditions across Hyderabad. It appealed to residents to follow preventive measures and support ongoing anti-larval operations to keep the city safer from mosquito-borne diseases.
