Indiramma housing scheme expands with tower plan in Nizamabad

Hyderabad: The Telangana government planned to launch Indiramma housing towers in Nizamabad and replicate the Hyderabad model in other towns, Revenue Minister Ponguleti Srinivasa Reddy said.

The Minister inspected Housing Department government lands within the Nizamabad Municipal Corporation limits to identify sites for the proposed towers. He said Nizamabad would mark the beginning of the government’s plan to construct similar Indiramma housing towers in other urban areas.

Ponguleti disclosed the plan during his visit to Nizamabad district. Earlier, he undertook a morning walk and inspected completed and under-construction Indiramma houses. Local legislators, elected representatives and officials accompanied the Minister during the inspections.

Indiramma housing scheme reaches eight lakh sanctions

Ponguleti said the government had already sanctioned eight lakh houses under the Indiramma housing scheme. The figure included two phases of housing in rural areas and the first phase of houses planned for Hyderabad.

Of the sanctioned houses, two lakh had already been completed, he said. Beneficiaries had also completed house-warming ceremonies for those homes. The Minister said the government’s objective was to provide Indiramma houses to all homeless poor families across Telangana.

He described the houses as a symbol of dignity for poor families. During his visit, Ponguleti interacted with beneficiaries and sought their feedback about the housing programme.

He said beneficiaries expressed happiness over fulfilling their long-standing dream of owning a house. They also conveyed their blessings to the government and thanked Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, he added.

The Minister said seeing the impact of welfare programmes directly on poor families gave him satisfaction. He maintained that the happiness visible among beneficiaries demonstrated the changes government welfare measures had brought to their lives.

Indiramma housing scheme beneficiaries receive gifts

Ponguleti said he considered the opportunity to help poor families realise their dream of home ownership a privilege. During the interaction, he presented gifts to Indiramma housing beneficiaries and congratulated them.

The Minister said conversations with beneficiaries showed how strongly home ownership affected the lives of poor families. After reviewing the houses, Ponguleti inspected government land belonging to the Housing Department within Nizamabad corporation limits.

The inspection was aimed at identifying suitable locations for the proposed urban housing towers. The government intended to construct the towers on the Hyderabad model and subsequently extend the initiative to other towns in Telangana.

Incomplete double-bedroom houses to be finished

Ponguleti also inspected an unfinished double-bedroom housing complex in Nizamabad town. He said previous governments had proposed the housing complex but left construction incomplete.

The Minister directed the district Collector and other officials to immediately complete the remaining construction and necessary amenities. Officials were also asked to make the houses fit for occupation.

After completing the pending works, authorities should identify eligible beneficiaries, sanction the houses and hand them over, he said. Ponguleti said the Indiramma housing scheme remained focused on ensuring housing for poor families without homes across the state.

The Nizamabad initiative would now serve as the starting point for the proposed expansion of the Hyderabad-style housing tower model to other Telangana towns.
