Hyderabad: Former minister and BRS deputy floor leader T. Harish Rao on Friday alleged that the Congress government had failed to ensure uninterrupted power and water supply across Telangana. He claimed the State had witnessed disruptions in electricity, drinking water and irrigation services under the present administration.
Harish Rao said the previous BRS government had provided farmers with 24-hour free electricity. He also said every household received safe drinking water through Mission Bhagiratha, while irrigation water flowed without disruption.
Meanwhile, Harish Rao conducted a surprise inspection of the Solepet Electricity Substation in Bommalaramaram mandal of the Aler Assembly constituency. Former Aler MLA Gongidi Sunitha accompanied him during the visit.
He reviewed the substation logbook, interacted with electricity department staff and examined records relating to power supply for farmers.
Power and water supply under scrutiny
Later, Harish Rao said he had visited the constituency to console the family of a deceased BRS worker. However, local women complained that they received drinking water only once every two days.
According to him, the Congress government had failed to maintain the Mission Bhagiratha network despite inheriting a fully functional system from the previous BRS government.
He alleged that the government was deliberately neglecting Mission Bhagiratha. He claimed proper implementation of the scheme would benefit BRS president K. Chandrashekar Rao and the party.
Further, Harish Rao claimed that people in Sangareddy, Narayankhed, Andole, Zaheerabad, Kamareddy, Yadadri, Nalgonda, Mahabubnagar and several other districts were facing severe drinking water shortages. He alleged that women had once again started carrying water pots in search of drinking water.
Meanwhile, Harish Rao said he ordered the surprise inspection after farmers complained about prolonged power cuts. According to him, the substation operator said farmers earlier received 14 to 15 hours of electricity every day.
He further alleged that the government had reduced agricultural power supply to 12 hours a day. Moreover, he claimed repeated tripping disrupted electricity even during those scheduled hours.
Harish Rao questioned why the Congress government had failed to provide uninterrupted 24-hour electricity to farmers despite its repeated assurances.
