Hyderabad: Authorities opened 10 gates of the Jurala reservoir after Jurala reservoir floods intensified due to heavy rainfall in the upstream catchment. The project received an inflow of 80,000 cusecs, prompting officials to release excess water to the Srisailam reservoir.
Officials released water through the spillway for the first time this season. At the same time, the project discharged 47,000 cusecs downstream through hydroelectric power generation.
The irrigation department also supplied water through the Jurala right and left canals. Meanwhile, engineers continued monitoring inflows as rainfall persisted in the upper reaches.
Power generation continues amid Jurala reservoir floods
The project generated 395 megawatts of electricity through 10 units operating at the upper and lower hydroelectric power stations. Therefore, authorities maintained power production while regulating reservoir levels.
Officials said they would continue monitoring inflows and outflows to ensure safe reservoir operations. Furthermore, they are expected to adjust water releases depending on rainfall and upstream inflows.
Heavy rainfall across the Krishna river basin has increased water levels at several reservoirs. Consequently, irrigation officials remain on alert to manage floodwaters and maintain downstream safety.
