Hyderabad: Former minister and MLA Sabitha Indra Reddy criticised Chief Minister Revanth Reddy over the Telangana water crisis, power shortages and proposed spending on the Musi project. She compared the current situation with the previous BRS government’s approach under K. Chandrashekar Rao.
Speaking to the media, Sabitha said Revanth Reddy had cited a lack of water and electricity. She said the Chief Minister had also complained that power was unavailable for purchase. Under KCR, she said, the government had bought electricity at higher prices when necessary.
Sabitha recalled that power purchases at Rs 3.70 to Rs 3.90 per unit under the previous government had triggered corruption allegations and an inquiry. She questioned why Revanth Reddy was now saying electricity was unavailable even at Rs 12 per unit.
She accused the government of poor planning and neglecting its responsibilities towards the public. Sabitha also said the Chief Minister had ignored demands to lift water from Kannepalli.
Telangana water crisis: Sabitha questions Musi project plans
Sabitha alleged that Telangana had allowed water to flow downstream while the neighbouring state conserved supplies. She claimed that 750 TMC of Godavari water and 250 TMC of Krishna water had flowed away. According to her, Telangana should have benefited from this combined 1,000 TMC.
She blamed the Chief Minister and his government for failing to protect water meant for Telangana. Sabitha also questioned where the government intended to obtain water for the proposed Musi project.
Turning to the project’s cost, she said farmers lacked money to meet their agricultural expenses. Yet, she argued, the government was prepared to spend Rs 1.40 lakh crore on the Musi works. She questioned why the expenditure was urgently needed and what benefits it would bring.
Sabitha also challenged plans for Musi works near Himayat Sagar. She demanded that the government explain where the reservoir’s water would come from.
Her criticism covered river water management, electricity procurement and the proposed Musi expenditure. She questioned the government’s priorities while farmers faced financial difficulties.
