Hyderabad: Police detained Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) president Mahesh Kumar Goud, ministers, MLAs and party workers during a protest at Rail Nilayam over the refusal to provide Delhi special trains for the November 1 rally. South Central Railway rejected the party’s request for special services from Hyderabad to the national capital.
Congress leaders raised slogans against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and criticised the railway authorities’ decision. As the demonstration intensified, tension gripped Rail Nilayam. The protesters demanded trains to transport party supporters to Delhi.
Despite the refusal, Congress leaders said they would reach the national capital in large numbers. They insisted that the obstacles would not stop them from attending the rally.
Delhi special trains demand ahead of INDIA alliance rally
The Congress has announced that around 10 lakh people are expected to attend the November 1 rally in Delhi. The INDIA alliance organised the event to demand the immediate removal of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.
Meanwhile, Haryana Congress in-charge Sanjay Dutt and state Congress president Rao Narendra Singh told PTI that transparent electoral rolls and protection of voting rights were essential to democracy. They said the Congress would not compromise on these issues.
The leaders also said the party’s “Vote Bachao–Desh Bachao” campaign had reached its final stage. The campaign challenges the Election Commission’s functioning and alleged irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls.
The rally will take place at Delhi’s historic Ramlila Maidan. Congress leaders said the event would conclude the campaign and demonstrate their commitment to protecting democracy and the Constitution.
They also described the gathering as a protest against alleged “vote theft”. The party said it aimed to unite people around electoral transparency and the protection of voting rights.
Following the protest over Delhi special trains, police took Mahesh Kumar Goud, ministers, MLAs and party workers to Secunderabad Market police station.
