Hyderabad: Revenue, Housing and Information & Public Relations Minister Ponguleti Srinivasa Reddy launched the Indiramma housing programme in the CURE limits, announcing the construction of 8,000 houses in the first phase across 16 Assembly constituencies. The government will accept applications from July 21 to August 10 through MeeSeva centres, WhatsApp and the official website. It will extend the scheme to another eight constituencies after identifying suitable land.
Accordingly, Ponguleti inaugurated the programme at the Secretariat along with Ministers Duddilla Sridhar Babu, Ponnam Prabhakar and Mohammed Azharuddin. The ministers unveiled the Indiramma housing brochure and application platforms. Meanwhile, they honoured Konda Nagaraju of Nakirekal in Nalgonda district with a cash award of ₹1 lakh for explaining the scheme through an Instagram video.
The minister said the government had sanctioned 4.5 lakh houses in the first phase across Telangana. Subsequently, Chief Minister Revanth Reddy launched the second phase covering another 2.5 lakh houses. With the latest launch, the total number of sanctioned houses has reached eight lakh. He added that more than two lakh houses would be completed by next month.
Indiramma housing targets beneficiaries in CURE limits
Ponguleti said the government reviewed housing projects developed by the previous administration and found that many beneficiaries had not occupied the allotted houses because they were located 30 to 35 kilometres away from Hyderabad. Therefore, the government decided to construct houses within the beneficiaries’ own Assembly constituencies and close to their existing places of residence.
Each beneficiary will receive a 525-square-foot house. In addition, the government will provide and register, free of cost, a residential plot valued between ₹40 lakh and ₹60 lakh in the name of a woman beneficiary. The beneficiary cannot sell the property for 10 years. However, she may mortgage it to obtain a bank loan.
The government will reserve allotments for Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and Backward Classes. Moreover, it will provide a subsidy of ₹5 lakh for every house. Since each house costs about ₹11 lakh, beneficiaries will pay the remaining ₹6 lakh in four instalments.
Applicants whose applications do not receive approval will receive a refund of the ₹10,000 application amount. Further, the government will adjust that amount against the beneficiary’s contribution if it approves the application.
Applicants must apply only in their respective Assembly constituencies. Meanwhile, the government identified land after consulting local public representatives irrespective of political affiliation. Family income should not exceed ₹6 lakh a year. Applicants should not own a house or residential plot within the CURE limits. The authorities will accept only one application from each family.
Applications open from July 21
Applicants can submit applications through MeeSeva centres, WhatsApp (8096958096) and the official website from July 21 to August 10. Thereafter, officials will conduct a 360-degree verification of all applications. If eligible applications exceed the available houses, officials will allot the houses through a public lottery.
Each flat will include one bedroom, a hall and a kitchen within a built-up area of 525 square feet.
Accordingly, Ponguleti said the government launched the programme during the Bonalu festival and aimed to complete construction before next year’s celebrations. He said beneficiaries should be able to celebrate next year’s Bonalu from their new Indiramma houses.
The minister said the government was releasing construction payments every Monday based on the progress of work despite financial constraints. Besides, he announced that the government would soon unveil a housing scheme for middle-class families.
IT and Industries Minister Duddilla Sridhar Babu described the programme as a historic initiative in the CURE limits. Likewise, Ponnam Prabhakar said the government was fulfilling its election promises through programmes such as free bus travel, free electricity, ration cards and Indiramma housing. Mohammed Azharuddin welcomed the decision to provide houses for poor families in Hyderabad.
The first phase covers Rajendranagar, Maheshwaram, Serilingampally, Ibrahimpatnam, Malkajgiri, Nampally, Khairatabad, Karwan, Bahadurpura, Amberpet, Kukatpally, Medchal, Qutbullapur, Sanathnagar, Secunderabad Cantonment and Malakpet Assembly constituencies.
