Hyderabad: BC Welfare Minister Ponnam Prabhakar directed officials to complete BC Gurukul inspections across all institutions under the Mahatma Jyotiba Phule Telangana Backward Classes Welfare Residential Educational Institutions Society (MJPTBCWREIS) by August 30.
The minister issued the directions during a video conference to review the functioning of BC Gurukul institutions, academic standards, infrastructure and student welfare. He said the government’s priority was to provide quality education, safe campuses and better facilities for students.
BC Gurukul inspections to strengthen monitoring
Ponnam Prabhakar instructed every Regional Coordinating Officer (RCO) to spend three days each week on field visits. He said each RCO should inspect at least six Gurukul institutions every week.
He said RCOs should serve as a link between the society headquarters, district administration and educational institutions instead of limiting their role to inspections.
The minister directed officials to speed up land acquisition for institutions operating from rented buildings. Meanwhile, he asked them to coordinate with district collectors to complete the process. He also instructed officials to ensure that institutions sanctioned for a constituency function within the same constituency.
He said six per cent of the rent paid for leased buildings should be earmarked for repair and maintenance works.
BC Gurukul inspections to focus on student welfare
The minister directed officials to implement rainwater harvesting systems effectively in every institution to address future water shortages.
In addition, he asked officials to promptly report complaints, suggestions and feedback from parents to the society headquarters for timely action.
Ponnam Prabhakar said students should receive encouragement not only in academics but also in sports, arts and personality development. He added that the government would provide additional support to talented students identified by the institutions.
The minister also instructed officials to organise counselling sessions with psychologists to reduce stress among students and improve their mental well-being. He emphasised the need to maintain both physical and mental health.
He directed authorities to closely monitor kitchens, food quality and hygiene to prevent food poisoning incidents during the current academic year.
Furthermore, the minister said he, the commissioner and the secretary would conduct surprise inspections at a minimum of 15 Gurukul institutions every month. He warned officials against negligence in discharging their duties.
Ponnam Prabhakar also announced that the government would take special steps to construct a permanent campus for the Moosi Gurukul institution. He further instructed schools to involve students in plantation drives and assign them responsibility for maintaining the saplings.
BC Welfare Commissioner Balamayadevi, MJPTBCWREIS Secretary Badugu Saidulu, deputy secretaries and Regional Coordinating Officers participated in the video conference.
