RTA books 245 school buses for safety violations across Telangana

Hyderabad: School bus safety violations prompted the Transport Department to register cases against 245 vehicles belonging to educational institutions across Telangana during a special enforcement drive aimed at protecting students.

Officials said the department launched the drive following the reopening of schools and educational institutions across the state.

The inspections focused on compliance with safety regulations and vehicle fitness standards.

Authorities booked vehicles involved in safety violations and other breaches of transport rules.

The department also seized 60 buses that lacked valid fitness certificates or failed to meet prescribed safety standards.

Officials said student safety remained the primary objective of the special drive.

Furthermore, authorities warned that inspection drives would continue across Telangana.

They said strict action would follow against vehicles that fail to comply with safety requirements.

The department urged educational institutions to ensure that all buses operate in accordance with transport regulations.

According to official data, Telangana has 25,987 buses operated by educational institutions.

Of these, 23,204 buses have obtained fitness certificates.

However, 2,783 buses are yet to secure the mandatory certificates.

Officials said preventing school bus safety violations requires regular vehicle inspections and timely renewal of fitness certificates.

They also stressed the need for regular maintenance and strict adherence to safety norms to ensure the safe transportation of students.
