Hyderabad: Telangana Anti-Corruption Bureau officials on Thursday caught two treasury officials and a private person for allegedly accepting a ₹1 lakh bribe. The Rangareddy ACB trap followed a complaint concerning the processing of salary bills and pension adjustment arrears.
The ACB identified the officials as Sub-Treasury Officer Madiga Laxmaiah and Assistant Treasury Officer Kavali Anuradha. Both worked at the Divisional Sub-Treasury Office in Chevella, Rangareddy district. The bureau identified the private person as Sri Vadde Jangaiah, also known as Chinna.
According to the ACB, the two officials had demanded ₹2.50 lakh from the complainant. They allegedly agreed to accept ₹1 lakh as part payment.
The bureau said the alleged bribe related to an official favour already extended to the complainant. The officials had processed and forwarded the complainant’s suspension-period salary bills worth ₹23,25,390. The matter also involved post-retirement pension adjustment arrears amounting to ₹4,29,000, according to the ACB.
Rangareddy ACB trap recovers ₹1 lakh
During the Rangareddy ACB trap, Laxmaiah allegedly accepted ₹50,000 directly from the complainant as his share of the part payment. Meanwhile, Jangaiah allegedly accepted the remaining ₹50,000 from the complainant on Anuradha’s instructions. The ACB described Jangaiah as a private person in the case.
Subsequently, ACB officials recovered the entire ₹1 lakh allegedly paid as a bribe. The bureau said it recovered the tainted amount from Laxmaiah and Jangaiah at their instance. The ACB alleged that Laxmaiah and Anuradha had performed their official duties improperly and dishonestly to obtain an undue advantage.
Officials were producing the two treasury officers and the private person before the Principal Special Judge for SPE and ACB Cases at Nampally for judicial remand. The bureau said the case remained under investigation. It withheld the complainant’s details for security reasons.
The ACB also asked people to report bribery demands by public servants through its toll-free number, 1064. It said complainants’ and victims’ names and details would remain confidential.
