Hyderabad: IT and Industries Minister Duddilla Sridhar Babu laid the foundation stone for a ₹400-crore mega dairy plant in Toopran on Sunday.
The integrated facility will come up at the Urja Industrial Park in Medak district. Sabar Dairy, which operates under Amul, will initially process 5 lakh litres of milk every day.
The project will directly benefit nearly 10,000 local dairy farmers and create around 350 direct jobs. Meanwhile, the facility is expected to strengthen connections between rural milk producers, organised procurement networks, processing systems and urban markets.
Sridhar Babu described the project as an important development for Telangana’s agriculture and allied sectors. He said the state had a substantial base of dairy farmers and families dependent on milk production.
According to the minister, the integrated unit will connect local producers with modern processing and organised markets. He also linked the investment to the state’s industrial policy and the Invest Telangana and Telangana Rising–2047 vision.
Sabar Dairy entered the Telangana market in 2015 and currently procures more than 1 lakh litres of milk daily from local farmers. The new facility will expand processing and create opportunities for greater value addition to milk.
Mega dairy plant to make multiple dairy products
The Mega dairy plant will manufacture several products, including packaged milk, curd, paneer, ice cream and lassi. In addition, the facility will produce ghee, buttermilk and bakery items.
The minister highlighted the farmer-focused structure of the Amul cooperative model during the ceremony. He said up to 80% of every rupee spent by consumers flows directly back to milk producers under the model.
Union Minister G. Kishan Reddy also attended the foundation ceremony. Telangana Minister Dr G. Vivek Venkataswamy, Medak MP Raghunandan Rao and other elected representatives were present as well.
The ₹400-crore project marks a major investment in Telangana’s organised dairy infrastructure. It is also expected to strengthen the link between local milk procurement, processing and consumer markets.
