Hyderabad: The Prisons Department plans to establish a government ITI at Cherlapalli Central Prison to strengthen skill development and rehabilitation opportunities for inmates, Director General of Prisons Soumya Mishra said.
Soumya Mishra visited Cherlapalli Central Prison and reviewed infrastructure works, affiliation procedures and other preparatory arrangements for the institute.
Officials briefed her on the progress of the project and the steps required to secure approvals.
Government ITI to boost inmate skill development
Speaking on the occasion, Soumya Mishra said correctional institutions must provide quality technical education.
She said the department proposed the government ITI to strengthen rehabilitation and skill development programmes for inmates.
The institute will equip prisoners with vocational skills and improve their employment prospects after release.
Furthermore, she said skill-based education plays a key role in helping inmates rebuild their lives and reintegrate into society.
The DG reviewed the ongoing preparations and directed officials to speed up the remaining formalities.
