Hyderabad: The High Court postponed its verdict on the Saifabad Police petition seeking cancellation of bail for BRS MLCs T Madhusudhan and N Naveen Kumar Reddy. Justice BR Madhusudhan Rao announced the postponement on Monday after both sides finished their arguments.
A lower court had granted bail to the two MLCs. The case concerns allegations that they insulted State Legislative Assembly Speaker Gaddam Prasad Kumar in the name of caste.
Public Prosecutor Palle Nageswara Rao argued for the police that officers registered the case over inappropriate comments against the Speaker in the name of caste. He said the magistrate granted bail without examining the seriousness of the case. He asked the court to cancel the bail orders.
Advocate TV Ramana Rao, who represents the MLCs, said there was no truth in the allegation that the BRS MLCs abused the Speaker in the name of caste. He said the false allegations came to the fore after developments that followed the prevention of BRS MLCs from entering the Assembly.
Defence cites earlier High Court orders
Ramana Rao also raised the issue of police acting inappropriately towards BRS women MLAs. He reminded the court that it had earlier ordered action against the police in this matter. And he argued that the police should not seek cancellation of bail without considering those developments.
He urged the court to dismiss the petition. He said it was meant to cause political trouble for opposition leaders.
