Hyderabad: Congress leaders staged a large KCR resignation protest at Indira Park on Sunday, demanding that former Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao quit as Leader of the Opposition. They accused the BRS president of failing to attend the Legislative Assembly while continuing in the post. A large number of Congress leaders and workers joined the protest meeting at Dharna Chowk near Indira Park.
Ministers Duddilla Sridhar Babu, Ponnam Prabhakar, Mohammed Azharuddin and Vivek Venkataswamy attended the programme. TPCC president Mahesh Kumar Goud and Government Advisor V. Hanumantha Rao also participated.
MP Chamala Kiran Kumar Reddy, several MLAs, senior Congress leaders and party workers also joined the protest. Congress leaders argued that KCR had no moral right to remain Leader of the Opposition. They alleged that he had failed to discharge the responsibilities attached to the position.
KCR resignation protest focuses on opposition role
Addressing the gathering, Sridhar Babu demanded KCR’s resignation over his absence from the Assembly. He alleged that the BRS chief had failed to perform his role as Leader of the Opposition. Sridhar Babu also accused the BRS of spreading “false propaganda” against the Congress government and its Praja Palana.
Meanwhile, he highlighted welfare programmes introduced by the Congress government for poor families. He also asserted that the BRS would not return to power for another 10 years.
The Minister then targeted the previous BRS government over ration cards. He alleged that it had not issued a single ration card during its 10-year tenure. In contrast, Sridhar Babu said the Congress government was issuing ration cards to all eligible beneficiaries.
Mahesh Kumar Goud challenges BRS to debate
TPCC president Mahesh Kumar Goud also addressed the KCR resignation protest and challenged BRS leaders to a debate on governance. He proposed comparing the Congress government’s performance during its first 1,000 days with the BRS government’s 10-year record.
Thus, Congress used the Dharna Chowk protest to combine its resignation demand with a broader political attack on the BRS. Party leaders focused on KCR’s Assembly attendance while also defending the Congress government’s welfare record.
