Hyderabad: Legislative Council Chairman Gutha Sukhender Reddy on Tuesday called for the effective functioning of welfare committees Telangana to ensure government schemes reached every eligible beneficiary.
He asked the committees to closely examine the implementation of welfare programmes and identify obstacles preventing benefits from reaching people at the grassroots level. Gutha made the remarks at the inaugural meetings of three legislative welfare committees at the Telangana Legislative Council Conference Hall.
The meetings covered the Scheduled Tribes Welfare Committee and the Backward Classes Welfare Committee. The Welfare Committee for Women, Children, Persons with Disabilities and Senior Citizens also held its inaugural meeting.
Welfare committees Telangana asked to identify implementation gaps
Gutha said legislative committees played a vital role in the functioning of the legislature. He said such committees examined public issues in detail before making appropriate suggestions and recommendations to the government.
The Council Chairman asked the committees to focus particularly on the delivery of welfare schemes to eligible beneficiaries. These schemes covered Scheduled Tribes and Backward Classes. They also included programmes for women, children, persons with disabilities and senior citizens.
Gutha said committees should identify bottlenecks affecting the implementation of these welfare programmes. Moreover, he asked members to work with officials from the departments concerned and suggest practical solutions to identified problems.
The committees should also bring public grievances to the government’s attention, he said. He asked members to take steps that could help authorities resolve those grievances.
Legislative leaders attend inaugural meetings
Assembly Speaker Gaddam Prasad Kumar attended the meetings along with Legislative Affairs Minister Duddilla Sridhar Babu. Legislative Council Deputy Chairman Banda Prakash was also present.
Committee chairpersons Payam Venkateshwarlu, Raj Thakur and Chittam Parnika Reddy participated in the proceedings. Members of the Legislative Assembly and Legislative Council also attended.
In addition, Secretaries of both Houses and senior government officials participated in the inaugural meetings. Gutha expressed confidence that the welfare committees Telangana would function effectively during their tenure.
He said their work could help people secure greater benefits from welfare programmes implemented by the State government. The Council Chairman also conveyed his best wishes to the chairpersons and members of the newly constituted committees.
